As mentioned in our last newsletter, Komei visited the Eidos Montreal studio for a week in January and for four weeks in March.
Risa was able to join him for 10 days in late March and we spent a weekend in Quebec City.

前回の近況報告でも触れましたが、浩明は1月に一週間、3月に4週間EidosのMontreal Studioに長期出張しました。 理沙も会社費用負担で10日間モントリオールに来ることができ、週末には二人でケベック・シティまで足を伸ばすことができました。 (1月の写真) (3月の写真)
Crystal Dynamics struggled this year. It laid off about 70 employees in 2009 and Komei was one of them. In late July, Komei landed on a new job at a company called Total Immersion Software, Inc. (TIS) in Alameda that specializes in simulation training programs for medical, police and military people. Komei is working on a 3D editor to create buildings to be placed in the simulation. Even though we have serious clients, our technologies, employees' background and the company's atmosphere are very similar to those of other video game companies. One thing about our Alameda office is that everyone loves playing ping-pong. We play almost every day and everyone is very good :) The commute is between 40 and 60 minutes by car but Komei often takes BART and bicycle or bus and enjoys watching video podcasts on his iPhone.
クリスタル・ダイナミックスは今年は業績が思わしくなく、2009年には70名ほどの社員をレイオフしました。 浩明は6月にレイオフされましたが、幸い7月には新しい就職先が見つかりました。 Total Immersion Software (TIS)という、医療関係者、警察官、軍隊向けの訓練シミュレーション開発ツールを手がける会社です。 浩明の担当はシミュレーションの中の家やビルを簡単に作成するためのエディターです。 エンドユーザーは今までのビデオゲームとはだいぶ違いますが、製品に使われている技術や社員の経歴、リラックスした会社の雰囲気もゲーム業界とほとんど変わりません。 浩明のいるアラメダオフィスではみんなピンポンが好きで、みんな毎日プレーして汗を流しています。 通勤は車で40分から1時間ぐらいですが、BART(電車)とバスまたは自転車で通うことも多く、通勤中にiPhoneでビデオ(podcast)を見るのを楽しんでいます。
Risa continues her work as an interpreter. This year, her business was affected by the economy and the swine flu scare during the summer. She was worried how long it would continue, but things started to pick up toward the end of the year.
理沙は通訳の仕事を続けています。今年は不況と新型インフルエンザの影響で企業の海外出張が減り、かなり不安な状況が続きましたが、 幸い冬になってからは仕事の依頼が増えてきて、多少ほっとしています。
We have family friends who moved to Basel, Switzerland a few years ago. They had been telling us to come visit them. In September, that finally realized and we were able to go on a 10-day trip to Switzerland. We went to see the Alps (Matterhorn, Eiger, Moench, Jungfrau, ...) and also visited cities like Luzern, Bern, Basel and Zurich. We were worried about the bad weather forecasts but we got to see at least a glimpse of every famous mountain so we were happy. Switzerland was so tourist-friendly, the food was delicious and we loved it. But everything was so expensive. The whole country is like London, Manhattan or Ginza, Tokyo.
数年前にスイスのバーゼルに引っ越された親しいご家族からずっと遊びに来て下さいと言われていたのですが、今年の9月にそれがやっと実現しました。 マッターホルン、アイガー、メンヒ、ユングフラウなどアルプスの山々を観光し、またルツェルン、ベルン、バーゼル、チューリッヒなどの街を散策しました。 天気予報はずっと雨で心配していたのですが、どの山も一応ちょっとずつは全景を見ることができ、大いに満足しました。 スイスは本当に快適に観光できる国で、食事もおいしく、とても楽しかったのですが、物価が高いのには驚きました。国全体が銀座なみの物価という感じです。
Komei's company will have the Version 1.0 product release in spring 2010. Risa will be teaching every other week at Monterey Institute soon. We will be both busy for a while but we still hope to have a chance to see you soon. We wish you Happy Holidays and a New Year!

TISは2010年の春にVersion 1.0の出荷予定で、また、理沙はモントレーの大学(MIIS)で隔週で通訳の授業を受け持つことになりました。 二人ともしばらくは忙しくなりそうですが、それでも近いうちにお会いできれば幸いです。 2010年も是非よろしくお願いいたします。
